The Wessex league has since it started in 1989 had many clubs who joined the league and then left.
Aldershot Farnham and District had a boy’s team in the mid nineties staying for about a couple of seasons. Bicester Runners, north of Oxford had a team in the league for several seasons but left probably because of the amount of travelling involved. Exel Gosford was another club from Oxfordshire, this time Kidlington. Their name came from their sponsors, Exel Logistics. Grove just north of Wantage were members of the league in its early years. The club it is believed folded when the organisers from Harwell Research Establishment were transferred. Along the south coast, Havant spent several seasons in the league before leaving. Jersey Spartans expanded the league southwards for several seasons.
Newbury left the league in 2005 after being one of the original members in 1989. Oxford City came into the competition in the mid nineties and had several very successful seasons before leaving. Salisbury were another founder club who left last season.
Team Solent were members for many seasons before leaving a couple of seasons ago. However a recent amalgamation with Southampton City brings them back as a force to be reckoned with as Team Southampton. Southampton City even had a “B” team in the league albeit for one season. Stubbington Green Runners were members for several seasons, leaving as recently as 2005. Wimborne from Dorset spent several seasons before departing for greener pastures.
Reading left the league in 2007 after two very successful seasons. Eastleigh Juniors also left after the 2007 season.
Two new clubs joined the league in 2008. Poole Runners (not to be confused with Poole AC) are joining for the first time and Oxford City are rejoining the league after several years away.
